HIGHLANDS RANCH (AP) — A bear spotted in a Highlands Ranch neighborhood has prompted school officials to cancel recess and other outdoor activites for children at a nearby school.

The Denver Post reports (http://bit.ly/PZYyYW ) wildlife officers were on the scene Wednesday to relocate the bear. Douglas County School District spokesman Randy Barber says children at Coyote Creek Elementary School were not being allowed outside for recess or other activities while the bear was in the area.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office began receiving reports of a bear in the bedroom community south of Denver around 7:30 a.m. Wildlife officials tranquilized and removed the bear about two hour later.
