Colorado Parks and Wildlife is accepting applications from individuals, organizations and local governments for grants that benefit outdoor recreation activities in Colorado.
The agency announced this week it would distribute up to $1.7 million in matching grants in 2013 for Colorado projects that benefit fishing, shooting ranges or boating.
“These programs are one of the ways Colorado Parks and Wildlife partners with local governments and local groups to make it possible for more people to enjoy the real Colorado,” said Rick Cables, director of Parks and Wildlife in a news release. “Outdoor recreation is a powerful driver for local economies and jointly building these projects is a win for everyone.”
The grant programs are partially funded by federal excise taxes on the sale of boating, hunting, and fishing equipment, and come back to Colorado through the federal Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program.
The matching grant monies are broken up into three funds, including $900,000 in the Fishing Is Fun grant program, $500,000 in the Shooting Range Development grant program, and $300,000 in the Boat Colorado grant program.
The application deadlines for the Fishing Is Fun, Shooting Range Development and Boat Colorado grant programs are March 1, Feb. 1, and March 2, respectively.
