Meanwhile federal land managers are upgrading restrictions on public lands in northwest Colorado, including the White River National Forest, starting Friday, and restrictions in southwest Colorado are taking effect Wednesday.

Also Wednesday, the town of Dillon is prohibiting campfires, outdoor smoking, charcoal grills and outdoor coal- or wood-burning stoves, even in developed camping and picnic grounds. It also is prohibiting the sale of fireworks, not just the private use of them. Fires within liquid- or gas-fueled stoves are allowed. Welding is allowed with permission from local authorities.

Larimer County, where firefighters have fought multiple wildfires that have prompted evacuations this year, also is tightening restrictions.
