McCombs and Johnson took a box trailer and converted it into Max Archery, a full service archery shop, complete with the full line of PSE archery products. McCombs is also certified in instruction and PSE bow maintenance. Johnson will complete his training this summer.

“It’s very hard for people to grasp our mobile business but it provides us the convenience to appear at all the area archery shoots where a large customer base is already gathered.” McCombs said.

The box trailer holds a complete line of PSE bows, bow maintenance equipment, shooting accessories and a state of the art security system.

Archery has become a passion for Johnson and McCombs. They hope to share that passion with the local community.

“Watching the kids shoot is really something I enjoy,” Johnson said. “Archery can be a great family activity and we are trying to encourage more families to become involved.”

McCombs has provided lessons to children as young as 6, and Max Archery can provide state of the art equipment for archers of all ages.

“We are especially interested in providing archery lessons for kids,” McCombs said. “Research shows that if children don’t become involved with outdoor activities at a young age they are much less likely to do adopt these hobbies as an adult.”

The mobile unit also allows McCombs and Johnson to provide lessons to families and individuals at any location.

“Archery is not all about hunting, we have become really interested in target shooting,” McCombs said.

McCombs and Johnson are both involved with archery target shoots and the month long archery hunting season in Colorado.

“The archery season is my favorite time to be in the mountains,” Johnson said. “It is a long season and the weather is usually still very good.”

In western Colorado, the archery season for deer and elk will begin August 25 and last until September 23. More information about hunting seasons is available on the Colorado Division of Wildlife website, www.wildlife.state.co.us/.

Johnson was born in the Montrose area and has become very passionate about archery over the past four years. McCombs has been shooting a bow all his life and is happy to call Montrose home.

Once the two gain additional support they hope to have an indoor shooting range. Eventually they hope to provide a full service permanent archery shop to Montrose residents and those who travel to the area from all across the country.
