Sportsmen’s Caucus for NW Colorado set for next weekend

Hunters and anglers looking to make their mark on Colorado Parks and Wildlife procedures will have an opportunity this month.

CPW is forming regional sportsmen’s caucuses, and inviting all active hunters and anglers from the northwest region to discuss wildlife issues with CPW officials and biologists Feb. 20 at the Clarion Hotel in Grand Junction, according to an agency news release. The meeting will be a forum for hunter and anglers to express their opinions and concerns directly to CPW.

In addition to the discussion, two delegates will be selected at the meeting to represent the region at the Sportsmen’s Roundtable, a new group which will give hunters from across the state direct access to agency officials.

“We have always had forums for public input, but this is a formal method for stakeholders to voice their ideas, opinions and concerns early in the decision-making process,” Northwest Regional Manager Ron Velarde said in the release. “This gives our agency valuable input from our constituents that is critical for our wildlife management decisions and goals.”

The Roundtable will be made up of two delegates (who must be licensed hunters or anglers) from each of the four regions, as well as 16 statewide members. Regional delegates are chosen by other hunters in their region, but statewide delegates will be selected through an applicationapplication process. process.
