ESTES PARK — A 60-year-old woman has been trampled by a cow elk outside her apartment in Estes Park near Rocky Mountain National Park.
Town spokeswoman Kate Rusch says Robin Pattishall was taken to a hospital after the attack on Tuesday. Rusch didn’t know the nature of her injuries. Hospital officials didn’t immediately return a call.
Rusch says Pattishall was leaving her apartment and inadvertently walked near the elk, which was protecting her calf. Rusch says Pattishall did nothing to provoke the attack.
The elk wandered off before police arrived.
Elk are a common sight in Estes Park, a village of about 6,000 in the mountains 50 miles northwest of Denver. They’ve been known to hold up play on the city golf course and graze in a park on the town’s main drag.
